| What
is Eczema?
The word Eczema comes
from the Greek word “ekzein” which means “boil out” as Eczema often
begins as small blisters or hives, as if the skin is bubbling or
boiling out from inside.
Inflammation of the
epidermis of the skin develops into a skin rash.
Also know as
Dermatitis, Eczema is incredibly common, some sources say that half the British
population will have it at one time or another. It often
develops
as baby Eczema which frequently diminishes but may continue to
adulthood.
It is generally
considered that there is no cure for Eczema. See pages 23 - 27 my Ebook
Solve Eczema Naturally for more information about Eczema cures. Is this definitely Eczema?
Eczema is often
diagnosed by a general practitioner, not a dermatologist and there are
other conditions which look similar or give the same symptoms but need
different treatment. These are just a few which can be mistaken for Eczema. If in doubt go back to your doctor and ask to see a
dermatologist.
Ringworm (also
called serpigo) is characterized by a reddish to brownish raised or
bumpy patch of skin that may be lighter in the center, giving the
appearance of a “ring.” It can be anywhere on the body. Depending on
its location, it is also known as tinea pedis or "athlete's foot" when
on the feet, tinea cruris or "jock itch" when on the groin area. On the
body it is known as tinea corporis or ringworm, or tinea capitis when
on the scalp. Ringworm is not caused by a worm but by parasitic fungi.
Scabies
has been mistaken for Eczema. Scabies is a tiny, highly contagious skin
infection where a tiny mite, Sarcoptes scabiei burrows into the skin.
There is intense itchy skin and the skin can become infected. An outbreak
doesn’t respond to treatment normal Eczema treatment. See picture of
scabies here.
Dermatitis
herpetiformis Gluten
sensitivity/celiac disease causes this and the symptoms can often be
misdiagnosed as Eczema.
